At Cammeray Public School the learning support team (LST) has been established to support and augment student learning. The learning support team assists teachers to plan class programs to meet the specific learning needs of all students, including those who experience difficulties in learning. It co-ordinates the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of learning support plans.
Other areas the team coordinates and assists with include communicating information to staff and parents, organising formal and informal transition meetings, supporting a mentoring program for students who require extra encouragement and self-esteem building, coordinating the parent volunteering reading program and establishing a social skills program.
The team meets weekly discussing students who have been referred to the LST by the class teacher. Many of these are referred onto the school counsellor who is involved with the administration and interpretation of diagnostic testing.
The learning and support teacher, through the school's learning and support team, provides assistance to students with additional learning and support needs. They work with the school, teachers, parents and caregivers in identifying and assessing students and to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programs. At Cammeray the learning and support teacher assists in the classroom or withdraws students for assessment and short term intensive instruction.
As part of the learning and support program the making up lost time in literacy (MultiLit) reading program has been established to assist students from Year 2 to 6. This highly successful program involves volunteers reading with students on a regular basis, monitoring the progress and implementing strategies to improve student's reading skills.
Cammeray Public School strongly believes in working together in partnership with parents and staff for the benefit of the child.
