Anti-Racism Initiatives

Anti-Racism Initiatives

Racism No Way

Every member of the school community can assist in countering racism by demonstrating respect for the cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds of others, and interacting in ways that promote acceptance and harmony in the school and community.

There are many ways we can work together and below are a series of initiatives we are implementing at Cammeray Public School, plus some useful resources to help us tackle racism as a community.

Initiatives:

  • Deep Harmony - is an arts-based anti-racism program for schools. Delivered by Dr Rachael Jacobs from Western Sydney University, where our students in Years 5 and 6 will engage in a series of workshops this semester.
  • ‘Let’s Talk About Racism’ - is a video from the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), explaining why discrimination and racism are unfair. It also describes laws and individual responsibilities about racial discrimination.
  • Racism No Way - is a website which encourages everyone to engage positively to better understand Australia’s cultural diversity and history.
  • Anti-Racism in Action (ARiA) - is an organisation with a mission to build an anti-racist community and heal the traumas of racism. In Semester 2 our school will be engaging in a K-6 program to build understanding and foster respect for the cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds of others.
  • All Together Now - is an organisation who aim to educate Australians about how racism manifests and the effects it has on people.

Anti-bullying - zero tolerance

Can you stand up to the group if you know something is not quite right? Watch and see how these students react.

Anti-bullying interventions in schools - what works?

Anti-racism and the role of the Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO) - no place for racism.

Understanding diversity. Recognising the cultural diversity of school communities helps meet the educational and welfare needs of students and their families. It aids in the planning of teaching and learning activities.
