Bands
Stage Band
The Stage Band is the 2nd of two large group jazz ensembles at the school. The students rehearse once a week, performing swing, rock, Latin and popular styles. The Stage Band students have worked hard in 2021 and have learnt a number of pieces. In this video the Stage Band perform J.B Rides Again.
Big Band
The Big Band is the premier large group jazz ensemble at the school. The students rehearse once a week, performing swing, Latin, popular rock and funk styles. A main feature of jazz and big band music is soloing, which is when a single musician plays an interesting melodic part by themselves. Solos are often improvised in jazz groups and this is something all students in both the Big Band and Stage Band are encouraged to do. In this video the Big Band perform Santa Claus is Coming to Town.
Concert Band
The Cammeray Public School Concert Band is the premier wind ensemble at the school. Comprising Year 5 and 6 students, the Concert Band performs advanced primary school wind band repertoire. The Concert Band enjoyed a successful first 6 months of 2021, which included 2 weekly rehearsal per week, and saw the band successfully audition to perform at Sydney Town Hall as part of the Festival of Instrumental and Choral Music. The Concert Band students are proud to present their online rendition of Overture On A Hymn Tune. Congratulations Year 6 band students on a fantastic 4 years in the Cammeray Band Program!
Intermediate Band
The Intermediate Band comprises students who are in their second year of learning an instrument in the school band program, typically as Year 4 students. The Intermediate Band studies more advanced repertoire, building on the fundamental skills developed in Junior Band. The 2021 Intermediate Band participated in online band and tutor lesson during the second half of the year, which culminated in this festive season performance of Songs Of Christmas Cheer.
Junior Band
Students begin in the Cammeray PS band program in Year 3, as part of the Junior Band. The Junior Band learn fundamental music and band performance techniques during two weekly rehearsals. The student learns from a method book and also study a variety of wind band repertoire. In 2021 the Junior Band program pivoted to remote learning via digital interface, during one weekly rehearsal and one private tutor lesson. The Junior Band students are excited to present Sleigh Ride as their final online performance of the year.
